Family-Owned, Licensed Air Heat Repair Team Serving Tampa Bay & Southwest Florida

TLS Air Conditioning & Insulation is a family-owned company established in 2015. Our seven offices in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Venice, Punta Gorda, North Port and Pinellas Park support homeowners across Tampa Bay and Southwest Florida.

Our heat pump repair service addresses heating, cooling and mode-switching problems. Diagnosis includes relevant refrigerant, electrical, airflow and control checks to identify the cause.

We hold Florida HVAC License CAC1822364 and Electrical License EC13016589, so wiring and breaker work on a heat pump stays with our own crew. Diagnosis runs $125, credited back if you move forward with the repair.

TLS has repaired and maintained equipment in more than 54,000 Florida homes since opening in 2015, and most single-component repairs, a bad capacitor, a failed contactor, a stuck relay, finish in one visit.

Common Heat Pump Problems We Diagnose and Repair

Reversing Valve and Mode-Switching Problems

A heat pump stuck in heating or cooling mode may have a valve or control fault. We check the cause before recommending component replacement.

Refrigerant Leak Repair

Low refrigerant can reduce heating and cooling performance. We investigate the leak source and explain the repair needed before adding refrigerant.

Capacitor, Contactor and Electrical Faults

Electrical faults can prevent startup or interrupt system operation. We test the relevant components to identify which repair is needed.

Frozen Coils and Defrost Problems

Persistent ice can indicate airflow, refrigerant or defrost-system problems. We inspect the affected components rather than assuming the defrost board has failed.

Thermostat and Control Problems

Incorrect signals or faulty controls can affect temperature, cycling and mode selection. We check thermostat settings and control operation during diagnosis.

Compressor Problems

Poor performance or startup failure does not automatically mean the compressor needs replacement. We check related electrical and system conditions before recommending major work.

Signs Your Heat Pump Needs Repair

Arrange an inspection if you notice:

Frosted heat pump outdoor unit beside an open utility closet showing the indoor air handler and thermostat, marked with six signs a heat pump needs replacing

1
Weak heating or cooling despite the correct thermostat settings.
2
Heavy ice buildup that remains after the defrost cycle.
3
Frequent cycling or difficulty reaching the selected temperature.
4
A system that will not switch between heating and cooling.
5
Unusual grinding, rattling or hissing sounds.
6
Higher energy bills without an obvious change in usage.

These symptoms can have several causes. Diagnosis helps determine whether your system needs maintenance, repairs or a replacement assessment.

What Does Heat Pump Repair Cost in Florida?

Every repair starts with a $125 diagnostic fee, which is credited toward the repair if you move forward, so you’re never paying twice to find out what’s wrong. After diagnosis, we provide a written estimate before any repair work begins, broken out by part and labor rather than a single bundled number.

Final cost depends on which component failed: electrical parts like capacitors and contactors are typically the least expensive fix, refrigerant leak repairs vary with leak location and accessibility, and compressor or reversing valve replacement runs highest since those are the most labor-intensive repairs on the system. None of this gets estimated over the phone; it’s confirmed on-site before you approve anything.

Does Florida Law Protect My Heat Pump Repair Warranty?

Yes. Under Florida Statute §559.957, a manufacturer’s warranty on a part or system is effective based on installation by a licensed contractor, not on whether a registration card got mailed in, and that protection applies to replacement parts installed during a repair the same as it does to a full system installation.

TLS backs every repair with our own labor warranty on top of whatever manufacturer coverage the replaced part carries, and we record part and serial numbers at the time of repair so there’s a paper trail if a claim ever comes up. If the home is ever sold, Florida Statute §559.956 carries any remaining manufacturer warranty to the new owner automatically, at no transfer fee.

What Sets TLS Apart in Florida Heat and Air Repair

Community discounts

Special offers support veterans, first responders, seniors and teachers. Eligible families may qualify; proof of affiliation may be required.

$125 diagnostic fee, stated up front.

Credited toward the repair if you move forward, not a vague “flat fee” you only learn the amount once a technician is already at your door.

Both heating and cooling modes tested.

Every diagnostic checks both sides of what a heat pump does, not just whichever mode happened to fail.

Dual-licensed, in-house crews.

A separate electrical license means wiring and breaker issues stay with our own team instead of getting referred to a subcontractor.

4,000+ five-star Google reviews.

Backed by a 4.9-star rating that holds steady across six independent review platforms, not just the one a business chooses to link.

Written estimate before any repair begins.

You approve the actual cost, broken out by part and labor, before work starts, never after.

FAQs

Many faults can be repaired without replacing the entire system. The decision depends on equipment condition, repair history, warranty coverage and the proposed cost.

Cost depends on the leak location, accessibility and work required. TLS diagnoses the problem and provides a written estimate before you approve repairs.

Possible causes include thermostat settings, control faults or a reversing valve problem. An inspection identifies why the system is not switching or heating correctly.

Contact TLS to check appointment availability. Repair completion depends on the diagnosed fault and whether suitable parts are available.

The standard diagnostic fee is $125, credited toward an approved repair. Ask about applicable membership benefits or promotional exemptions when booking.

Salt exposure can contribute to corrosion on outdoor equipment. The effect varies with installation location, equipment protection and maintenance history.

Ask TLS to confirm the parts and labor coverage for your specific repair. Existing manufacturer coverage may also apply to eligible replacement components.

Check the thermostat mode and whether the air filter needs attention. Tell TLS about any tripped breaker; avoid repeatedly resetting one that continues to trip.
