Thomas Hoerig & Seth Hoerig, founders

Meet the Founders Behind TLS Air Conditioning & Insulation

TLS Air Conditioning & Insulation is a family-owned company founded by brothers Seth and Thomas Hoerig. Seth started TLS in 2015 as a single-truck insulation contractor after seeing too many Florida homeowners stuck with rushed, undersized insulation jobs that left their attics working against them. He still oversees every insulation installation personally, applying the standard he set on day one: do the job right the first time.

His brother Thomas leads the HVAC side of the business, built on the same principle that insulation and air conditioning have to work as one system, not two separate jobs. Together, Seth and Thomas grew TLS into the full-service HVAC and insulation contractor.

What Home Insulation Services Does TLS Provide in Florida?

Blown-in insulation installed across an attic floor
01

Blown-In Insulation

TLS assesses your home before recommending blown-in insulation for suitable areas. Material selection and installation depend on access, existing insulation and the construction of each space.

Areas we insulate:
Attic Insulation
Add coverage around framing and accessible obstructions on suitable attic floors.
Wall Insulation
Assess finished wall cavities and access options before recommending installation.
Ceiling Insulation
Improve thermal protection in accessible ceiling spaces using suitable materials.
Existing Insulation Top-Ups
Add material where existing insulation is dry, sound and suitable.
Benefits:
Insulation panels fitted to a garage door
02

Garage Door Insulation

We fit insulation to suitable garage door panels to reduce heat transfer. Our team assesses panel construction, material compatibility and operating clearances before recommending work, while keeping hinges, tracks and other moving components accessible.

Benefits:
Batt fiberglass insulation fitted between framed wall cavities
03

Batt Insulation

Batt insulation suits accessible framed walls and ceiling cavities, including renovation projects. We select material for the space, fit it around obstructions and check coverage, helping avoid gaps and compression that can reduce its thermal performance.

Benefits:
Old attic insulation being removed from a Florida attic before replacement
04

Attic Insulation Removal

We assess existing insulation before recommending removal from the agreed work area. Damaged material or insulation blocking repairs may need removal, while sound material can often remain. Suspected asbestos-containing insulation requires evaluation by a qualified specialist.

Benefits:
Sealing a gap around a window frame with a caulk gun
05

Air Sealing

Air sealing addresses accessible gaps that allow unwanted air movement through your home. We assess attic access points and penetrations, then seal suitable openings while maintaining ventilation paths and required clearances around equipment and building components.

Benefits:
Sealed HVAC duct connections after professional duct sealing
06

Duct Sealing

Leaking duct connections can release conditioned air before it reaches your rooms. We inspect accessible joints and connections, seal suitable leakage points and identify damage requiring separate repairs, with the proposed work explained before you approve service.

Why Insulation Matters in Florida Homes

Most Florida attics run hotter than people expect. Independent Florida Solar Energy Center testing has measured peak attic air temperatures of 127 to 134°F on shingle roofs, and attics typically account for 15 to 25 percent of a home’s total heat gain, a real number worth knowing instead of the inflated “40 percent” figure some contractors use.

ENERGY STAR’s own Zone 2 data, the zone covering Tampa Bay and Southwest Florida, puts insulation’s impact at roughly 9 percent of a home’s heating and cooling energy use. A lot of homes built before the 1980s were insulated to only R-11 to R-19, well under what current Florida code requires.

Signs Your Attic or Walls Need New Insulation

6
1
Upper rooms get noticeably hotter during sunny afternoons
2
Attic insulation looks patchy, compressed or missing in visible areas
3
The AC runs for long stretches even after being checked and confirmed working properly
4
A ceiling or wall feels warmer than the surfaces around it
5
A past roof, plumbing or condensate leak reached the insulation
6
A renovation exposed wall or ceiling cavities that are now bare

A high electric bill can come from several places: weather, utility rates, duct leaks and equipment wear among them. We check the insulation itself before pinning a bill on one cause.

Insulation and Your AC Are Connected: Here's How

A comfortable home depends on three things working together, not just the insulation.

Part of the Home
What It Does
What We Check
PART OF THE HOME
Insulation
WHAT IT DOES
Slows heat moving through ceilings and walls
WHAT WE CHECK
Coverage, depth, condition and fit against R-38
PART OF THE HOME
Air Sealing
WHAT IT DOES
Limits air leaking through gaps and penetrations
WHAT WE CHECK
Attic hatch, penetrations and accessible gaps
PART OF THE HOME
Ductwork
WHAT IT DOES
Delivers cooled air to the rooms
WHAT WE CHECK
Leakage, damaged connections and airflow

Adding insulation over an air leak doesn’t close the leak. We check all three before recommending a scope, and because we also install and repair AC systems, we can tell you if your comfort problem is actually on the AC or duct side instead of the insulation. See our AC services.

Duke Energy & FPL Rebates on Florida Insulation

Qualifying insulation upgrades may receive utility rebates. Eligibility depends on your provider, property and program requirements.

Duke Energy Florida

Duke’s published program lists up to $800 for qualifying single-family attic insulation upgrades. Complete a Home Energy Check before proceeding with the recommended improvements.

Florida Power & Light

Eligible customers can receive a $220 ceiling insulation rebate. Existing insulation must be below R-8, installation must use an FPL-approved Participating Independent Contractor, and all attic spaces must be accessible.

Tell us your utility provider when requesting your free insulation estimate. Confirm eligibility and current rebate requirements before scheduling work.

What Does Insulation Cost in Florida?

Cost depends on the area being insulated, not your home’s total square footage. A 2,000 square foot house might need only an attic top-up, or it might need attic, wall and garage work together, which changes the price more than the square footage does.

We measure the actual work before quoting, not the whole house. Your estimate is written and itemized before anything is scheduled.

Home Insulation Services Across Tampa Bay & Southwest Florida

Across these six counties, our technicians reach more than 80 towns and communities, including Tampa, St. Petersburg, Wesley Chapel, Bradenton, Sarasota, and Punta Gorda, plus dozens of smaller communities in between.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ask what they’ll inspect, what material and R-value the quote targets, and whether prep, sealing or removal is included. A licensed contractor with in-house crews and a written scope is easier to compare against a vague quote.

Blown-in fiberglass covers an attic floor around framing and obstructions for even coverage. Batt insulation is cut and fitted between framed cavities. TLS installs both, and which one fits your home depends on the space, not the contractor.

Often yes, when the existing material is dry, sound and safe to leave in place. We inspect it first. Moisture, pest contamination or an unidentified older material changes the plan.

House size alone doesn’t set the price. What matters is whether the work covers the attic, walls or more, how much insulation is already there, and whether removal or sealing is needed. Your free estimate prices the actual work.

It reduces cooling load when the attic is under-insulated to begin with. The exact savings depend on your home’s current R-value, so we don’t quote a blanket percentage. ENERGY STAR’s Zone 2 modeled average for insulation’s share of heating and cooling energy use is about 9 percent, a reasonable benchmark, not a guarantee for every attic.

No. Insulation adds thermal resistance; it doesn’t close gaps that let air pass through the attic floor. We check accessible leaks as part of the attic plan and seal what needs sealing.

We don’t install spray foam ourselves. If your project specifically calls for it, we can refer you to a trusted partner rather than quote a service we don’t perform in-house.

We find the moisture source and assess the material before removing or replacing it. New insulation never goes over an active leak.

No. That material should stay undisturbed and be evaluated by a qualified specialist. The EPA advises treating attic vermiculite as potentially contaminated and not disturbing it yourself.

Duke Energy customers upgrading from R-19 or below to R-38 can qualify for up to $800, with a Home Energy Check required first. FPL customers with existing insulation under R-8 can qualify for a flat $220 rebate. We confirm eligibility during your estimate.
