An ageing ductless system in a Brooksville home came out, and a new Daikin 18,000 BTU heat pump mini-split went in its place. New wall bracket, new line set, a dedicated breaker and an outdoor disconnect, and the system checked on gauges before we left.

The room with the French doors was cooled by its own ductless unit, separate from the rest of the home. That unit was an older Goodman wall split, and it was showing its age: the casing was stained, the rating plate was peeling, and the outdoor condenser had weathered beside the house for years.
On the estimate visit we priced three brands side by side for the replacement, and the homeowner chose Daikin.
A ductless system is a matched pair. The indoor head and the outdoor heat pump are built and rated to work together, so an old condenser cannot simply be kept and paired with a new wall unit.
The refrigerant has changed too. The new Daikin runs on R-32, which has a global warming potential of 675 on its rating plate, a fraction of the older refrigerants. It needs its own correctly sized line set, so the copper is new from end to end rather than reused.
Two details are worth pointing out in the photos. The bracket is checked with a level before the wall unit goes on it. A ductless head drains by gravity, so a unit hung even slightly off can hold water instead of shedding it to the drain line.
Where the line set passes through the wall, the gap is sealed with foam before the cover goes over it. That opening is a straight path for outside air, moisture and insects into the room if it is left open.
Eighteen photos: the first two are the old system from the estimate visit, the rest are from installation day in October 2026. Click any photo to open it full size. Serial numbers are blurred and homeowner details removed; the city and ZIP are not.

The room now has a new inverter heat pump on its own circuit. An inverter system speeds up and slows down to match the load instead of switching hard on and off, so the room holds a steadier temperature through the day.
Because it is a heat pump, the same system handles the room on cooler Hernando County mornings too, not just in summer.
Everything new is visible and labelled: the breaker in the panel, the disconnect outside, and the line set run tidy from the wall unit to the condenser. That matters the next time anyone services it.
We will look at the indoor and outdoor units, price more than one brand side by side, and tell you straight whether it is worth repairing or replacing.
